Introducing Elemental
You: Kate the Great
Katharine Hepburn was one of the greatest and most influential
actresses to ever grace the silver screen. Through her persistence and
poise, Katharine paved the way for hundreds of female actresses, and proved
to the world that strong female characters can exist on screen as well
as in real life. What were the driving forces behind Katharine's great
success? Let's take a look at which of the ancient elements - fire, air,
earth or water - ruled her personality, courtesy of our newest astrology
report, Elemental
You.
Katharine's chart is dominated by Earth signs.
With such an elemental influence, it's not surprising that words like
solid, stable, strong and "down to earth"
leap to mind to describe this extraordinary woman. With both her Sun
and Moon in Taurus, Katharine had a powerful need for stability
and security. Her obstinate personality could, in part,
be due to wanting her life, environment, relationships and career to exist
only on her terms - no matter what the cost. In this case, art
follows life. As we all know, Katharine's willingness to portray characters
who stubbornly stand up to some of the the toughest actors in show business
- Burt Lancaster, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Fonda and
Spencer Tracy, to name a few - was a hallmark of her career and
certainly a cinematic representation of her true elemental essence. In
addition, an emphasis on Cardinal and Fixed signs in her
chart added that special blend of assertiveness, ambition,
independence and (sometimes inflexible) patience that turned
an emerging starlet into an actress for the ages.
Because of her Earth influence, Katharine
also needed to feel a "hands on" connection to life.
Physical contact with others would have been an important way to
affirm that connection, as would any hobbies or activities that literally
put one's hands in the earth. Pottery, gardening, hiking and camping
are a few examples of what will relax and rejuvenate those who need to
draw upon their Earth Mother. A noted golfer and gardener,
the image of this cinematic icon in her later years, dressed casually
in a slouchy sweater, slacks and floppy sun hat, is one that will last
forever.

Introducing HeartBeats:
Spencer Tracy & Katharine Hepburn
Although Katharine Hepburn had her fair share of partners throughout
her life, her most celebrated great love was fellow actor Spencer Tracy.
They shared a strong connection that could only be made possible through
cosmic means! Let's take a look at their astro-connection, courtesy of
our new HeartBeats
astrology report...
Katharine always said that despite warnings from
friends and family, she just couldn't seem to pry herself away from Spencer's
arms. With their composite Sun in Taurus, they were both
creatures of habit, and probably got very comfortable with
one another early on. Taurus is notoriously resistant to change,
so in this case, the phrase "better the devil you know than the devil
you don't" might hold true.
Since Taurus is an extremely sensual sign,
Katharine and Spencer were obviously an extremely sensual couple - which
is doubly supported by a composite Venus in Taurus. With
Katharine's Venus conjunct to Spencer's Mars, we know the
two shared a strong sexual attraction, and with Spencer's Venus
conjunct to Katharine's Pluto, a very intense, passionate love
affair was practically written in the stars.
This couple's ability to communicate - both
privately and on the silver screen - was another great strength of their
relationship. Katharine always said Spencer was her best friend, and she
was able to talk to him about anything. With a composite Mercury
in Aries, they would come across as warm, spontaneous, enthusiastic
and quick-witted communicators. As a matter of fact, our HeartBeats
astrology report indicates that the two might be "considered
artistically talented in terms of communication," and we would
have to agree! In addition to clever conversation, the two shared an almost
telepathic connection - one which has been captured in movies as
diverse as Woman of the Year, Adam's Rib and their last
celluloid appearance together, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
Alas, a wife, an addiction to alcohol and a tendency
toward abuse kept this relationship from falling into the "happily
ever after" category - much like Katharine's relationship with her
first true love, the director John Ford. Her karmic pattern is
complex, but the reason for her romantic connection is clear, and
it has led to a love story of cinematic proportions - one that
is curiously fitting for this legend of the stage and screen.

LifeQuest: Arnold Schwarzenegger
At 56, Ah-nold Schwarzenegger still reigns as one of cinema's favorite
action heroes. With a body hand delivered from Zeus himself, Arnold
is in as great a shape today as he ever was. The hype for Terminator
3 is underway, and we can't wait to see Arnold with that ever-so-appealing
half man/half machine look. It's getting hot in here folks, and after
a look at this superstar's chart, we may need a hose to put the fire out!
Born on July 30th, Arnold is the quintessential
Leo. Craving attention at an early age, Arnold sported a tasteful
loincloth to become Mr. Universe by age 20. With his Fixed Leo
nature, Arnold didn't stop there... he went on to win Mr. Universe two more
times (and Mr. Olympia seven times) before he decided to trade in a personal
trainer for a Hollywood agent. Arnold also has extra-strong Cancer
energies in his chart. Although Leos can be somewhat self-centered,
Cancer energies can make support structures and emotional security
extremely important. Arnold often boasts about his close family.
As a devoted husband and father, it's not surprising that Arnold has a
Rising Sign in Cancer. After all, he has been married 17
years and has four children (all from the same woman... can you believe
it?!).
With a Sun conjunct Pluto, Arnold has a strong
and stubborn willfulness that he embraces. He rarely veers off
course, finishing every project he starts - even if it does take 10 years
to complete (think Terminator). Although his Terminator
character coined the phrase "I'll be back," it is pretty characteristic
of Arnold as well. With his Sun in Leo, he is only truly happy if he is
entertaining the masses.
Mr. Schwarzenegger has a Moon in Capricorn,
which means that he can be serious and uncomfortable at
times. Now we know this seems hard to believe, but in situations where
spontaneous and exuberant emotional reactions are needed, Capricorn Moons
have a hard time expressing their emotions. We don't exactly know
anyone who was in the private room where Maria Shriver gave birth, but
we'd bet that Arnold had a hard time dealing with the initial shock, and
probably let someone else cut the cord! A Moon in Capricorn also means
a tendency to have strong emotional commitments. Yes, Arnold has
this type of commitment with the Bowflex machines in his private gym,
but we also see this commitment in Arnold's relationship with his wife
as well as the rest of his family.
In taking a look at the "Public Persona"
portion of Arnold's chart, we see that his Sun is in the First
House, which indicates a strong, powerful presence and personality.
This position also indicates physical strength and good health,
two of Arnold's most prized possessions! With his Mars in Gemini,
Arnold needs to be in constant physical motion, so it is no surprise
that he is such a fitness buff.
In Arnold's "Expanding Self" portion of
his chart, Jupiter is squaring Pluto, which means that he
has an enormous drive to be successful. He can usually marshal
the resources and energy necessary to get wherever he wants to go, and
those daily protein shakes don't hurt either! Arnold's smooth transition
from brawny body-builder to action-hero should be commended. He balanced
his professional career with academia and even managed to get a college
degree in the midst of flexing for adoring body-building fans. Arnold
is a great example of a motivated, driven celebrity who knew exactly what
he wanted out of life, and wasn't afraid to lather on the body oil and
go after it! Look for him next in Terminator 3: The Rise of the
Machines...
